
The Jim Stevenson Tenor Scholarship is funded by The Jim Stevenson Performing Arts Trust (the ‘Trust’) to support outstanding New Zealand early career tenors who have completed their training but wish to further their development.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Entries for the 2026 Jim Stevenson Tenor Scholarship open 25th August 2025 and close 26th September 2025 for the funding period year beginning 1st November 2025 to 31st October 2026. As a guide applicants shall be aged between 20 and 35.

The recipient maybe requested to take part in publicity including social media and shall acknowledge the award in biographies for up to 5 years.

A shortlist of applicants (normally 4) shall be selected and requested by 30th September 2025 to attend a performance recital for assessment by a panel of adjudicators nominated by the trust

Trust scholarship grants will only be paid out in NZ dollars into the recipients NZ bank account

Financial support for contributing to expenses for attending the finals may be provided with prior approval.

Recipients may be asked to meet with the Trust representatives or to perform at Trust event/s, subject to prior agreement including contribution for costs incurred

The scholarship award winner shall receive a grant valued up to NZD 10,000 subject to Trust approval.

Recipients shall engage with the trust on the progress of the project / study and submit a full report within 1 month of its completion

Applicants shall have resided in or have completed a substantial proportion of their training in New Zealand and as postgraduates, are seeking financial support for the next stage

The recipient shall use the grant funding for eligible activity costs according to the criteria of the application applied for, as approved by the Trust

Applicants shall be New Zealand citizens or New Zealand Permanent Residents, but not necessarily resident in New Zealand at the time of applying.

All eligible activity carried out with the funding must comply with all New Zealand laws, bylaws and regulations and those of the territory where the project / study is undertaken

The scholarship grant shall contribute to costs relating to advanced development for a NZ tenor e.g. international audition, conservatoire attendance or even financial support during early contract singing assignments. It may include related travel and accommodation

Neither the applicant or award recipient can transfer their funding or rights and responsibilities to anyone else

The project / study referred to in the application shall align with the funding period

These terms and conditions are not intended to be onerous or complex. Applicants should seek independent advice for further support.

If a recipient needs to defer the project / study, they must get written approval from the Trust, to avoid forfeiture of the grant.
